The woman who has died after catching fire and suffering severe burns has been named as Sarah Hussein.

The 31-year-old died last Friday in Bury, Greater Manchester, after she was hospitalised with horrific injuries.

Police and paramedics were called to a home on East Street at 7.30pm and Ms Hussein was rushed to hospital where she died.

Three men aged 34, 24 and 26 were arrested in connection with the incident but have since been released on bail pending further investigation, Greater Manchester Police have confirmed.

Shaista Farzeen, 33, who was one of the first on the scene, says the nightmarish images have been forever imprinted into her memory.

'We heard screaming and ran out,' she said, adding that neighbours rushed to help the woman who was on fire when she came out of the house.

'I couldn't leave her. I stayed with her. I didn't care how long it took. The time blurred.'

More people rushed to help the victim, frantically trying to put out the fire.

'We were emptying water out of a bucket on her,' Ms Farzeen said. 

'The ambulance service was telling us to keep putting water on her.

'My aunty brought out a wet duvet and wrapped it around her. Eventually the fire went out.

'I didn't know her. I will never forget it.'

The community is now mourning a tragic loss in simply horrific circumstances.  

One dismayed 19-year-old said: 'It's really not a bad area. This place is usually filled with kids. Awful that they have to see this.'

Another at the scene said: 'RIP angel, gone but never forgotten.'

Bury Council leader Eamonn O'Brien added: 'I am truly saddened to hear about the death of a woman in Bury who suffered severe burns.

'We send our heartfelt condolences to her friends and family.'

Three men were arrested in connection with the incident, Greater Manchester Police confirmed.

All three men were still in custody for questioning on Saturday evening, July 24, with police saying investigators were not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.

However, on Monday, July 26, spokesperson for the force confirmed the men have been released on bail pending further investigation.

Police and fire investigators say they are continuing their work to establish the circumstances.

Detective Chief Inspector Daniel Clegg, of GMP's Major Incidents Team, said on Saturday evening: 'This is a truly devastating incident, in which a woman has tragically lost her life.

'I would like to reassure the public that we believe this is an isolated incident, and there will be an increased emergency services presence in the area as we work to establish the full circumstances surrounding this death.
