David Mcknight-Hillman, 25, a counselor at a Los Angeles-area center for troubled youths, was beaten to death while trying to break up a fight on Saturday 

A counselor at a Los Angeles-area center for troubled youths was beaten to death while trying to break up a fight involving seven teenagers and young adults, leading to multiple arrests.  

David Mcknight-Hillman, 25, was assaulted just before 10pm on Saturday while trying to stop a brawl at Wayfinder Family Services in the 5300 block of Angeles Vista Boulevard in the View Park−Windsor Hills area, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said in a statement. 

Wayfinder is a private non-profit community-based organization licensed by the State of California. The center provides residential therapy and other services to children and youth who are placed by the Department of Children and Family Services.

Deputies who responded to the scene found Mcknight-Hillman suffering from what appeared to be blunt force trauma injuries. 

The 25-year-old victim was taken to a local hospital, where he died of his injuries.

Investigators determined that Mcknight-Hillman, who was employed as a counselor in charge of the residents' day-to-day care, was attacked by two 18-year-olds and five juveniles as he attempted to break up a fight.

The two adults and four juveniles were taken into custody. The 18-year-olds, identified as Nyier Mason and Keith Lewis. were booked on suspicion of murder.

Four underage suspects were taken to juvenile hall, but the fifth teen ran away and is being sought.
