Search for missing quad bike rider ends in tragedy as a body is found in a riverbed

A desperate search for a missing quad bike rider has ended in tragedy after his body was found lying on a river bed.

Shane Robb was last seen riding his white Yamaha Banshee quad bike in Wongan Hills, 182km north-east of Perth on Sunday.

The search for the 37-year-old ended on Thursday about 3.15pm after his body was found lying in a Goomalling creek bed, a kilometre south-west of the crash site.

His quad bike was found near farming properties 4km north of Goomalling as police say it was involved in a crash.

Goomalling farmer Rex Rowle said the area Mr Robb riding in was quite popular with quad bike riders.

'He was commuting to Goomalling every day, he should have known the area really, where he is, which direction he was heading in,' Mr Rowles told Perth Now.

Another business owner in the area Clinton McIvor, said Mr Robb was riding his bike 'erratically' when he was last seen.

'He was only about 100m from the road (when he crashed), you know he would have seen cars driving past there at some point,' he said.

Wheatbelt District Inspector Mark Twamley thanked all the SES volunteers and police for their help in finding Mr Robb.

'Obviously it is upsetting for everyone involved when we resolve a matter in these circumstances,' he said.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
