EXCLUSIVE: Maoist Lambeth slave cult leader, 80, who kept daughter captive for three decades is locked up with Gary Glitter in 'luxury' jail dubbed 'Paedo Alcatraz'

The Maoist Lambeth slave cult leader who kept his daughter captive for 30 years is doing time in a 'luxury' prison nicknamed Paedo Alcatraz with Gary Glitter.

MailOnline has learned Aravindan Balakrishnan, 80, is in HMP The Verne, based on the Isle of Portland in Dorset.

Balakrishnan – who called himself Comrade Bala – raped two cult followers and falsely imprisoned and mistreated daughter Katy Morgan-Davies for over three decades.

HMP Verne had a £3.3million refurbishment in 2018 and houses 580 sex offenders including former pop star pervert Glitter.

But it is a far cry from the strict conditions Balakrishnan's victims were forced to live in under his iron grip.

They were beaten, banned from making friends and kept in almost total isolation from the real world.

Balakrishnan's prison has a football pitch, koi carp pond and even a giant chess set for the more cerebral among them to use.

There are also 20-inch flatscreen TVs and each of the six unit has got its own common room and dining area.

A source said: 'Balakrishnan is in general population with the other prisoners.

'The idea that he is enjoying any kind of luxury will be appalling for his victims to hear.'

Prisoners also have access to a library with magazines, books and newspapers as well as a gym and sport programme. A farm area also lets them look after ducks and tend to plants.

Ms Morgan-Davies waived her right to anonymity to tell of her hellish life in the cult after his sentencing, likening it to 'a caged bird with clipped wings'.

His trial heard she was beaten, was banned from singing nursery rhymes and only had children's books from China: Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter and others on the teachings of Chairman Mao.

Balakrishnan controlled access to the television and the members had to go into his room at 6pm to watch the news.

She said after his sentencing: 'The people he looked up to were people like Stalin, Mao and Pol Pot and Saddam Hussein - you couldn't criticise them either in the house.

'They were his gods and his heroes. These were the sort of people he wanted to emulate.

'I used to think 'God, if the whole world is going to be like this, what way out is there? How am I going to live? I cannot live in this'.'

Ms Morgan-Davies had no idea growing up Balakrishnan was her father or that another cult member Sian Davies was her mother.

Then on Christmas Eve in 1996, Ms Davies, 44, plunged from the bathroom window of the commune's house. She died of her injuries several months later in hospital.

Other members of the cult were Josephine Herivel, the daughter of Bletchley Park codebreaker John Herivel, and a Malaysian student.

They were all rescued after a charity was tipped off by a phone call, sparking their escape and Balakrishnan's prosecution.

His Workers Institute of Marxism-Leninism-Mao Zedong Thought cult in Brixon, south London, brainwashed members into thinking he had unworldly abilities.

One of the most striking parts of his 2015 trial heard he claimed there was a force called Jackie would cause disasters around the world if they ever disobeyed him.

The supernatural machine was so named after an acronym of Jehovah, Allah, Christ, Krishna and Immortal Easwaran.

He was jailed for 23 years in January 2016, meaning even if he is freed halfway through his sentence he has a further seven years to serve. Ms Herivel has since claimed he was set up and urged for his release.

Judge Deborah Taylor told him: 'You were ruthless in your exploitation of them.

'You engendered a climate of fear, jealousy and competition for your approval.'

'These are grave and serious crimes conducted over a long period of time and you have shown no remorse whatsoever.'

She added of his behaviour towards Ms Morgan-Davies: 'Your treatment of her from her birth to the age of 26 was a catalogue of mental and physical abuse.

'She was slapped with slippers or a stick from a McDonald's balloon you kept for the purpose.'

Balakrishnan was convicted of four counts of rape, six counts of indecent assault, two counts of ABH, cruelty to a child under 16, and false imprisonment

A Prison Service spokesperson said: 'Like all closed prisons, offenders are subject to strict security measures.'
