Machester United and Tottenham target Donny van de Beek 'waiting on Barcelona to make offer as he tells agent to hold off on talks' to see if LaLiga giants meet £50m asking price

Ajax star Donny van de Beek is waiting to see whether Barcelona make a bid for him before considering moves to Manchester United and Tottenham, according to sources in Spain.

SPORT claim Barcelona cannot afford to spent the 55 million euros required to meet Ajax's asking price, but could make a bid for the midfielder once they have offloaded fringe players to raise funds.

The report suggests Barca are currently preoccupied by the prospect of Lionel Messi's potential departure after the Argentine handed in a transfer request on Tuesday.

However, the Spanish giants could make a move for van de Beek once the Messi situation is resolved.

New Blaugrana boss Ronald Koeman is an admirer of the 23-year-old and capped the player at international level during his two-year reign as Holland manager.

Van de Beek's fine form in the Eredivisie and Champions League has caught the attention of Real Madrid, Manchester United and Tottenham, but the Dutchman favours Barcelona after theymade enquiries last summer.

Furthermore, van de Beek is keen to reunite with former Ajax team-mate Frenkie de Jong at the Nou Camp.

The transfer window is open until October 5, giving Koeman plenty of time to offload fringe players and raise funds to make a fresh bid.

Van de Beek has made 175 appearances for Ajax in total, 41 goals and 34 assists.
